Diptyque Baies is a scented candle built around the combination of blackcurrant and rose. When I first looked at the fragrance profile, what stood out to me was that it isn’t simply a sweet floral scent. The blackcurrant gives it a fresh, slightly green character, while the rose adds a softer floral side.
For me, Baies works best if you like fragrances that are floral but still have a fresh, fruity-green quality. It has a recognizable scent profile, but whether you enjoy it will largely depend on how you feel about rose and blackcurrant.

The main fragrance combines blackcurrant with rose. Diptyque describes the scent as fresh blackcurrants with their leaves and stems alongside rose.

The standard Diptyque Baies Classic Candle weighs 190 g and has an approximate 50-hour burn time, according to Diptyque. For me, the overall burn performance is something I would judge by how evenly the wax melts, how well the wick performs, and whether any tunneling or excess soot develops during use.
Diptyque recommends allowing the first burn to continue until the wax melts evenly across the surface, which can take up to around four hours. For subsequent burns, the brand recommends keeping each session to four hours or less and trimming the wick to around 3–5 mm before lighting. These steps can help maintain a more even burn and reduce the chance of tunneling.
Throw / Fragrance Strength
Cold Throw:
Before lighting, the fragrance is noticeable but isn’t necessarily overwhelming. The balance between the fruity blackcurrant and rose can be detected without burning the candle.
Hot Throw:
Once lit, the fragrance gradually becomes more noticeable. Diptyque says the fragrance is gradually released and becomes optimal after around 20 minutes, and the Classic candle is intended for small and medium-sized rooms.
For your personal review, I would describe the strength based on your actual room and experience rather than simply calling it “strong.” Throw can vary considerably with room size, ventilation, burn time and candle size.
Design & Packaging
The Classic Baies candle comes in Diptyque’s recognizable glass vessel with the brand’s distinctive oval label. The simple black-and-white presentation gives it a clean appearance, so I think it can sit comfortably on a shelf, table or bedside area without looking out of place.
I also like that the Classic 190 g candle is now available as a refillable format, with a matching Baies refill available from Diptyque.

Final Verdict
Diptyque Baies is a fairly distinctive floral-fruity candle built around blackcurrant and rose. I like the way the fresh blackcurrant gives the floral notes a greener, less straightforward character.
The main drawback for me is that the rose is noticeable enough that it won’t suit everyone. Overall, I think Baies is a good choice for someone who already knows they enjoy this type of fresh floral fragrance, rather than a candle I’d recommend purely because of the Diptyque name.
