Best Cire Trudon Candles: Reviews & Buying Guide

Cire Trudon is one of the names that comes up often when looking for luxury scented candles, and for good reason. The French house has a long history of candle making, and its current collection ranges from fresh and citrus-forward fragrances to rich tobacco, leather, woods, incense and elaborate floral scents.

What I particularly like about the Cire Trudon collection is how different the fragrances can feel from one another. There isn’t one single “Cire Trudon scent.” Some candles are bright and refreshing, while others are deep, warm and atmospheric.

I’ve personally reviewed several Cire Trudon candles for DIY Crafts Online, including Abd El Kader, Gabriel, Ernesto, Joséphine and Maduraï. I’ve also included several other current Cire Trudon candles that are worth considering even though I haven’t personally reviewed them yet.

The Best Cire Trudon Candles

1. Cire Trudon Abd El Kader

Abd El Kader is one of the Cire Trudon candles I would recommend first if you want something fresh, distinctive and easy to appreciate. The fragrance is centered around Moroccan mint tea, with citrus, ginger, mint and other aromatic notes creating a refreshing character.

The scent has enough complexity to keep it from feeling like a simple mint candle. There is freshness at the beginning, but the fragrance develops into something warmer and more layered.

Scent: Fresh, minty, citrusy and lightly spicy
Key notes: Blackcurrant bud, lemon, clove, ginger, mint, apple, jasmine and vanilla
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140
Our rating: 9.2/10

Cire Trudon currently lists Abd El Kader in 70g, 270g, 800g and 2.8kg sizes.

2. Cire Trudon Gabriel

Gabriel is a much warmer and more comforting fragrance than Abd El Kader. It combines woody and smoky elements with a sweeter, almost gourmand character.

The official fragrance profile includes birch wood, glazed chestnut, cashmere wood, moss, cedarwood, musk and patchouli. The combination gives Gabriel a cozy character that works particularly well when you want a candle that feels suited to evenings and cooler weather.

Scent: Warm, woody, smoky and gourmand
Key notes: Birch wood, glazed chestnut, cashmere wood, moss, cedarwood, musk and patchouli
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140

Trudon currently offers Gabriel in 70g, 270g, 800g and 2.8kg formats.

3. Cire Trudon Ernesto

Ernesto is one of the darker and more distinctive fragrances in the collection. It combines tobacco and leather with woody, spicy and amber-like elements.

The fragrance is inspired by Havana and has a considerably richer character than the fresher Cire Trudon options. If you normally enjoy tobacco, leather or smoky woody fragrances, Ernesto is one of the candles I would look at first.

Scent: Tobacco, leather, woody and spicy
Key notes: Bergamot, grapefruit, rum, oak wood, clove, labdanum, patchouli, tobacco, amber, leather and moss
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140

The current collection includes 70g, 270g, 800g and 2.8kg versions.

4. Cire Trudon Joséphine

Joséphine is a very different direction from Ernesto. It is a floral garden-inspired fragrance built around roses, jasmine, camellia and iris.

The fragrance has a sophisticated floral character rather than smelling like a straightforward sweet floral candle. Citrus and spice notes add some brightness at the top, while iris, musk and sandalwood give the fragrance a softer base.

Scent: Floral, green, elegant and slightly woody
Key notes: Bergamot, kaffir lime, spices, Chinese camellia, Egyptian jasmine, Turkish rose, iris, white musk and Indonesian sandalwood
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140

Joséphine is currently available in 70g, 270g, 800g and 2.8kg sizes.

5. Cire Trudon Maduraï

Maduraï is the floral choice in this group, with Indian jasmine at the center of the fragrance. It comes from Cire Trudon’s Belles Matières collection, which explores fragrances inspired by different places and botanical materials.

The fragrance is centered around jasmine, making it a natural choice for someone who prefers floral candles over tobacco, leather or heavy woods.

Scent: Floral and jasmine-forward
Key notes: Ylang-ylang, Sambac jasmine absolute and benzoin resin
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140

Trudon currently lists Maduraï in several candle sizes, including 70g, 270g and larger formats.

6. Cire Trudon Cire

Cire is arguably one of the most interesting candles to include in a Cire Trudon buying guide because the fragrance connects directly with the brand’s history of beeswax and candle making.

The fragrance combines bergamot, waxed wood and honey with beeswax absolute, sandalwood and cinnamon. Tonka bean, patchouli, musk and vanilla form the base.

This should appeal to someone looking for a warm, waxy, slightly sweet and woody fragrance rather than a conventional floral or fruity candle.

Scent: Warm, waxy, honeyed and woody
Key notes: Bergamot, waxed wood, honey, beeswax absolute, sandalwood, cinnamon, tonka bean, patchouli, musk and vanilla
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $155

Cire is currently available in 70g, 270g and 2.8kg candle formats.

7. Cire Trudon Cyrnos

Cyrnos takes a brighter Mediterranean direction. Lemon, myrtle and thyme introduce the fragrance, followed by cedarwood, black fig, lavender and pine.

The result is a fragrance profile that should suit people who prefer aromatic, citrus and Mediterranean-inspired scents rather than heavy winter fragrances.

Scent: Mediterranean, citrusy, aromatic and woody
Key notes: Lemon, myrtle, thyme, cedarwood, black fig, lavender, pine, cashmere wood, musk and patchouli
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140

Trudon currently lists Cyrnos in 70g, 270g, 800g and 2.8kg formats.

8. Cire Trudon Solis Rex

Solis Rex is inspired by Versailles and has a distinctly woody and incense-led character. The fragrance combines eucalyptus and orange with fir’s bark, cedarwood and incense.

This is one of the candles I’d consider for someone who wants an atmospheric fragrance rather than something obviously sweet or floral.

Scent: Woody, resinous, citrusy and incense-like
Key notes: Eucalyptus, orange, fir’s bark, cedarwood and incense
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140

The current collection includes 270g, 800g and 2.8kg sizes.

9. Cire Trudon Odalisque

Odalisque is built around orange blossom and combines citrus and woody elements with wild juniper and vanilla.

It is a good option to consider if you like floral fragrances but want something with more aromatic and woody depth than a straightforward jasmine or rose candle.

Scent: Orange blossom, citrus, aromatic and vanilla
Key notes: Lemon, orange, orange blossom, wild juniper and vanilla
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140

Trudon’s current product page lists the Classic 270g at $140 and a 55–60 hour burn time.

10. Cire Trudon Figuerie Royal

Figuerie Royal is inspired by the fig trees and greenhouses of the royal kitchen garden at Versailles.

Its fragrance profile is greener and more botanical than many of the darker Cire Trudon candles. Fig leaves, cedar leaves and green notes are combined with woody, earthy materials.

Scent: Green, herbaceous, earthy and woody
Key notes: Fig leaves, cedar leaves, hyacinth, green bouquet, patchouli, moss, sandalwood and tonka bean
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140

The current collection lists Figuerie Royal as one of the available Cire Trudon Classic candles.

11. Cire Trudon Altaïr

Altaïr is one of the newer additions to the permanent Cire Trudon collection. It combines oud with peony, creating a floral-woody fragrance with a warmer and more exotic character.

The fragrance pairs peony and raspberry with agarwood and sandalwood, followed by cedarwood and leather.

Scent: Floral, woody, warm and slightly leathery
Key notes: Raspberry, peony, agarwood, sandalwood, rose, cedarwood and leather
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $140

Trudon says Altaïr has moved from a limited edition into the permanent collection and is available across its scented objects.

12. Cire Trudon Positano

Positano is a collaboration with designer Giambattista Valli and takes inspiration from the Amalfi Coast.

The fragrance is centered around white flowers, including gardenia, orange blossom, jasmine, magnolia, tuberose and lily. Compared with the darker Trudon fragrances, this is a much brighter floral option.

Scent: Fresh, white floral and Mediterranean
Key notes: Gardenia, orange blossom, jasmine, magnolia, tuberose and lily
Classic size: 270g
Current U.S. price: Around $145

The current product listing shows Positano as a 270g Classic candle priced at $145.

Which Cire Trudon Candle Is Best for You?

Best Overall: Abd El Kader

If you’re buying your first Cire Trudon candle and want something distinctive without immediately going into the darkest tobacco or leather fragrances, Abd El Kader is a strong starting point.

Best for Tobacco and Leather: Ernesto

Ernesto is the obvious choice if you enjoy tobacco, leather, amber and woody fragrances.

Best for Floral Lovers: Joséphine

Joséphine is the one I’d look at first if you prefer sophisticated floral fragrances with jasmine, rose, camellia and iris.

Best for Jasmine Lovers: Maduraï

Maduraï is the natural choice if jasmine is one of your favorite fragrance notes.

Best for a Cozy Atmosphere: Gabriel

Gabriel’s woody, chestnut and cashmere-wood profile makes it particularly suited to evenings and cooler weather.

Best for a Beeswax-Inspired Scent: Cire

Cire is particularly interesting for anyone who wants to experience a fragrance closely connected with Trudon’s own candle-making heritage.

Best for Mediterranean Character: Cyrnos

Cyrnos is worth considering if you prefer citrus, herbs, fig, lavender and woods.

Best for a Green, Botanical Scent: Figuerie Royal

Figuerie Royal is the option I’d look at when you want something greener and more garden-inspired.

Best for Oud Lovers: Altaïr

Altaïr offers a modern floral-woody combination built around peony, agarwood, sandalwood and leather.

Cire Trudon Candle Buying Guide

1. Start with the fragrance family

The easiest way to choose a Cire Trudon candle is to think about the scents you already enjoy.

Fresh and aromatic: Abd El Kader, Cyrnos

Floral: Joséphine, Maduraï, Positano

Woody: Solis Rex, Cire, Gabriel

Tobacco and leather: Ernesto

Green and botanical: Figuerie Royal

Floral-woody: Altaïr

2. Think about the atmosphere you want

For a bright and refreshing atmosphere, I’d look toward Abd El Kader or Cyrnos.

For something warm and cozy, Gabriel or Cire makes more sense.

For a darker evening atmosphere, Ernesto or Solis Rex would be worth considering.

For a floral room fragrance, Joséphine, Maduraï or Positano are better starting points.

3. Consider the candle size

The Classic 270g candle is probably the most practical size for someone buying a Cire Trudon candle for the first time. Trudon also offers Small 70g candles, Intermezzo 800g candles and Great 2.8kg candles in many of its fragrances.

The 70g format is especially useful if you want to try a fragrance before committing to the larger candle.

4. Don’t choose only by popularity

Cire Trudon has a wide variety of fragrance styles, so the “best” candle depends heavily on personal taste.

Someone who loves fresh mint and citrus may prefer Abd El Kader, while someone who enjoys tobacco and leather may find Ernesto much more appealing.

That’s why I would choose by fragrance profile first and popularity second.

Final Verdict

Cire Trudon offers a remarkably varied candle collection, so there isn’t one candle that will be the perfect choice for everyone.

Among the candles I’ve personally reviewed, Abd El Kader is my strongest overall recommendation, particularly if you like fresh, minty and slightly spicy fragrances. Ernesto is a better choice if you prefer tobacco and leather, while Gabriel offers a warmer and more comforting direction. Joséphine and Maduraï are the better options for floral lovers.

Beyond those five reviewed candles, Cire Trudon’s current collection gives you plenty of other directions to explore. Cire is particularly interesting for its beeswax-inspired character, Cyrnos offers a Mediterranean profile, Solis Rex brings incense and woods, Figuerie Royal takes a greener botanical approach, and Altaïr combines oud with peony and woods.

If you’re buying your first Cire Trudon candle, I’d recommend starting with the 270g Classic format when available. It gives you a substantial candle without immediately moving into the much larger and more expensive formats.

Most importantly, choose the fragrance based on the notes you already enjoy. Cire Trudon’s collection is diverse enough that finding the right scent profile matters much more than simply choosing the most expensive or most popular candle.
