Yankee Candle MidSummer’s Night Candle Review
If you prefer candles that smell fresh, woody, and a little like a good cologne, Yankee Candle MidSummer’s Night is one that deserves a closer look. It has a noticeably deeper character than many of Yankee Candle’s sweeter or fruitier fragrances.
I wanted to see whether this popular scent actually lives up to its reputation and whether it works well as an everyday candle.
Yankee Candle MidSummer’s Night: Quick Details
The current Yankee Candle Original Large Jar is 22 oz and is listed with up to 150 hours of burn time. Yankee Candle currently lists the fragrance as a fresh and clean scent with citrus, bergamot, lime, lavender, sage, cedarwood, vetiver, juniper berry and moss notes.
Scent & Fragrance
MidSummer’s Night has a very different personality from something like Pink Sands.
The first thing I notice is the fresh, slightly citrusy and herbal character. As the fragrance develops, the woody and musky side becomes more noticeable. The combination gives the candle a cologne-like quality without making it smell exactly like a men’s fragrance.
I would describe it as dark, fresh, woody and slightly masculine.
The lavender and sage keep the fragrance from becoming too heavy, while the cedarwood, vetiver and moss give it more depth. Yankee Candle’s current fragrance description also places citrus and herbal notes at the top, lavender and sage in the middle, and cedarwood, vetiver, juniper berry and moss at the base.
What I particularly like about this scent is that it isn’t overly sweet. If you normally avoid vanilla, caramel, bakery or very fruity candles, MidSummer’s Night is worth considering.
Burn Performance
The large jar is designed for a long burn, with Yankee Candle currently listing up to 150 hours.
In my experience, I prefer burning this type of candle in reasonably long sessions rather than lighting it for only a few minutes at a time. That gives the wax time to melt more evenly and lets the fragrance build gradually throughout the room.
The single-wick large jar also has a traditional candle-burning experience that suits the classic Yankee Candle design.
One thing I would recommend is keeping the wick trimmed between burns. This helps keep the flame under control and can make the overall burning experience more consistent.
Throw / Fragrance Strength
I’d put MidSummer’s Night around the medium-to-strong range for fragrance strength.
The scent is noticeable once the candle has been burning for a while, but the experience can vary depending on room size and ventilation.
I think the fragrance works particularly well when you want the candle to create an atmosphere rather than simply add a light background scent.
The fragrance has enough depth that it doesn’t disappear into the room immediately. At the same time, I wouldn’t choose it if you’re specifically looking for an extremely light and barely noticeable fragrance.
Yankee Candle describes the Original Large Jar as providing room-filling fragrance, while its current 3-Wick version is specifically designed for enhanced fragrance performance.
Design & Packaging
The classic Yankee Candle jar is one of the easiest candle designs to recognize.
The large glass jar has a simple, traditional appearance with a lid that helps protect the wax between burns. It doesn’t have the minimalist luxury look of some high-end candle brands, but that’s not really what Yankee Candle is going for.
For me, the biggest advantage is familiarity. It looks like a classic scented candle and fits easily into a casual home setting.
The MidSummer’s Night fragrance also has a darker visual identity that matches the deeper character of the scent.

My Final Verdict
Yankee Candle MidSummer’s Night stands out because it doesn’t try to be sweet or traditionally floral. Its combination of fresh citrus, herbs, lavender, woods and musk gives it a more mature and atmospheric character.
For me, the biggest reason to choose it is its woody, cologne-inspired personality. It feels particularly suited to evenings, but the fresh elements keep it versatile enough to use throughout the year.

If you enjoy deeper, fresh and woody scents, I think MidSummer’s Night is one of the Yankee Candle fragrances worth trying. If you prefer fruity or floral candles, I’d look at Pink Sands or Lemon Lavender instead.
